The First Nations Law Students Association (FNLSA) at UBC is a group of diverse First Nations students from all across Canada, including Kwakiutl, Sliammon, Musqueam,Okanagan, Dene, Cree, Ojibway, Metis and others. We have chosen the law as one means of helping our Peoples in our struggle to have our Aboriginal Title, Rights and Treaty Rights recognized and respected. We bring with us our varied experiences and traditions through which we gain our persistence and strength to carry on this work for justice. All current First Nations law students are automatically eligible for membership.
Canadian law can be difficult. Canadian Aboriginal law can be even more disorienting. The FNLSA is here help you meet the challenge by providing peer, academic, emotional and personal support.
In 2006/2007 the FNLSA members were active participants in a number of areas including LSLAP, the First Nations Legal Clinic, the Kawaskimhon Moot, First Nations Law Committee (made up of Faculty, Staff and First Nations students), First Nations Law Conferences, the IBA and many other activities.
Group activities include a Christmas dinner, Grad dinner, Aboriginal Awareness Days in March and other individually initiated extracurricular activities. There are many ways you can become involved.
