Extra Sources of Funding for Student Groups and Individuals

Non-Alcoholic Beer Ups

As many of you may already know, the LSS once again has funding for "non-alcoholic bzzr-ups."  The first event to qualify for these funds was the recent Root Bzzr Up hosted by the Law Students for Choice.  The LSS has now devised policy for approving events for to receive this funding.
To qualify, your event must meet the following criteria:
1. Each grant will cover expenses for the beer up up to $200. An additional $100 will be added to club's budget for organizing the beer up.

2. Event must be held on a Friday afternoon in place of a beer up.  The even can not occur on the same afternoon as a beer up.  For a list of beer up dates, consult the Event Calendar at www.ubclss.org.
3. It must be for the social benefit of the entire student body.  The primary focus of the event should not be to advocate your club or team's particular cause. It should simply be a way to unwind for the entire student body.
4. Must be a non-alcoholic event.

Initiatives Funding

The LSS has set aside $2500 in order to fund special unforeseen initiatives as they arise throughout the year.  These will be available in blocks of $150 per initiative.  To apply for funding please email the ED Finance with response to the below criteria.  The funding will be determined at the next SAC meeting.
1. Description of the event/purpose of the funding.
2. Why the initiative was not originally budgeted for.
3. How the initiative will benefit the law school community.
4. Budget for the specific initiative, including the number of students involved.

Dean's Public Interest Fellowships

These fellowships are available to law students participating in international or domestic public interest internships sponsored by any non-profit or non-governmental organizations who receive no more than incidental or nominal compensation from the non-profit or NGO.  Please contact Senior Associate Dean Claire Young (young@law.ubc.ca) for more information.
