Law Students of Colour United

UBC Law Students of Colour United (LSCU) aims to further substantive equality principles, human rights education and anti-racist awareness within UBC law, the legal profession and the community at large.

LSCU contributes to the law school community by creating a safe space for racialized students (and faculty) to explore, discuss and analyze the various institutional burdens of being a racialized person within the law school setting and the legal profession generally.  LSCU also serves as a space for allies who are interested in learning more about anti-racism issues and supporting racialized students and faculty to promote anti-racist awareness.  Furthermore, LSCU aims to raise awareness and encourage discussion of race, culture and more general equality and human rights issues amongst all students within the law school and challenge the systemic flaws within the school and profession.

We hope that through critical discussion, students will begin to understand the importance of issues pertaining to race and substantive equality and how they intersect with the law.  LSCU works together with lawyers and organizations in the community to address social justice and human rights issues pertaining to race, ethnicity and culture.  These include discrimination complaints, immigration status and racial profiling issues.
