General Outlaws Information

Outlaws is the Queer Student Association at the UBC Faculty of Law. Our mandate is to promote a Queer-positive learning environment and to raise issues of interest to the Queer community. We welcome everyone - whether you're queer, an ally, or simply interested in issues of law and sexuality. The group will also be a valuable resource in your first year studies, whether it is for CANS, advice, or for answers to any other questions you might have about being at UBC law.

Past events include guest lectures on queer legal issues (such as hate crimes, HIV and the law, and transgender rights), panels on practicing as a queer lawyer, informal drinks with faculty, and fabulous Friday afternoon queer-ups complete with drag performers! In 2006/2007, we partnered with LSLAP (the Law Students’ Legal Advice Program) to develop a free legal clinic for low-income members of the queer community at The Centre. In April 2007, we hosted the "Standard Margins: Emerging Issues in Law and Sexuality" conference which brought together Canada's leading and emerging scholars working in legal issues of Queer interest.
